Absurdly Shining A Light On The Absurd
Well, I was all excited to be able to send you to CD Baby to download my music directly without the corporate overlords of music downloading taking 30% right off the top, but alas, it’s not to be.
CD Baby closed it’s “retail outlet” at the end of March. I had no idea that was coming when I uploaded my songs in January. So now if you’d like to download my music, you’ll have to utilize Amazon or iTunes or whatever downloading site you use and search for “Slickrock Stranger”.
I’m in the process of finding another direct download site very soon.
But for now, here’s the link to Apple music, where you can support the cause if you choose.
Many sites pay 6/10’s of a penny when someone streams a song. 1,000 listens nets the artist a whole $6.00, meaning artists spend hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars to produce music for the pleasure of being on a playlist of a corporate outfit that receives a monthly subscription fee and pays nearly nothing for a stream. Which is why most of my music will be available for download only.
An Inland Port Song
My newest release is my Inland Port song entitled, oddly enough, “An Inland Port Song”. I named it that (“An” instead of “The”) as I hope there’s other artists out there who will be covering the topic and my song will be just one of many. It’s fresh and warm right out of the oven and now available for download at the link above. Please support the cause by parting with a buck and downloading it and feel free to spread the word. I’ll be supporting both Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment and Stop The Polluting Port with some of the proceeds so download away and spread the word! Click on those names to access their websites for more information on the Inland Port issue, a massive distribution hub that’s being rammed down the throats of Salt Laker’s and will exacerbate the terrible air quality we have now. The corruption behind the establishment of the Inland Port Board is just another reason to fight the polluting port!
16 Plants in the Dirt - A Song for Matthew Stewart
This a cappella song debuted at the 2012 Utah Arts Festival and laments the event of January 4th, 2012 when local police burst into the home of a sleeping veteran, Matthew Stewart, and a gunfight ensued. The deaths that resulted from this tragic event were totally senseless and preventable. A documentary called “Peace Officer”, released in 2015, detailed an investigation of the raid. By clicking on that red colored link, it will take you to RoberEbert.com, which gave “Peace Officer” 4.5 out of 5 stars and called it “one of the year's best films”. It also received a 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Buy or rent this amazing film!
Paddle #70 - A Song for Tim DeChristopher
This song honors the actions of University of Utah student and climate activist Tim DeChristopher, who bid on parcels at a BLM oil and gas leasing auction and later spent almost two years in prison for attempting to save some beautiful lands. Click here for more information on the issues and events and see pictures of the land Tim attempted to save and videos of the march through Salt Lake City on the first day of Tim’s farcical trial.
The A-Limp-Fix Song
This was part of a two-song CD I released during the winter games that chronicles the attempts to “convince” the IOC to site the 2002 games in Utah, and the efforts of local leaders who got caught to hang two of the major players for all the deeds. Click here for more info on that.
The Death of Copper Coyote
This was the second song on the CD and it lampoons the idea of the 2002 winter games people honoring a coyote as a mascot, while the state actively supports efforts to kill them for a $20 bounty for their scalp to protect livestock who graze on our desert public lands at deeply discounted rates that cost U.S. taxpayers millions each year as well as harming the fragile desert ecosystem. Read the song notes on CD Baby for more information or go here.
